In the words of GEN President Jim Roberts, “The GEN Summit is all about peer-learning and facilitating partnerships for our common cause.” Established in part to build community through news, the Facebook Journalism Project shares in this spirit and attended this year leading three masterclasses and two workshops.

From Visual Journalism to New Ways of Newsgathering: Lessons Shared From GEN Summit 2019

To kick off GEN Summit 2019, Jesper Doub, Facebook’s Director of News Partnerships for EMEA, participated in a fireside chat on the Greek National Opera’s main stage. His message: “There is a clear commitment to our responsibility to help journalism find its way.” Facebook’s commitment also aligns closely to this year’s theme: Voice, Visual Journalism and Verification. Doub shared how Facebook is acting in support of new and traditional media voices, innovative storytelling at the local level, and meaningful social interaction on platform by elevating quality content.
