CITYarts’ Pieces for Peace Exhibition will open on Thursday, June 6th in Athens, at ATOPOS cvc. This exhibition features 300 works of art created by youth from 86 countries throughout the world, expressing their voices and vision for world peace.

The Athens exhibition will give an opportunity to local youth to add their voices and art to the growing Pieces for Peace collection; newly created works from Greece will join the exhibit on an exclusive wall, as well as uploaded to our virtual exhibit at www.cityarts.org and may be selected to join the traveling exhibition. As Pieces for Peace expands, CITYarts aims within the next two years to include voices of youth from all 193 United Nations’ countries. We are extending a warm invitation to all to initiate contact between CITYarts and potential partners in countries not yet represented in the

project to visit the new exhibition in Athens. We will also, provide materials for guests to create their own original Pieces for Peace at the exhibition space.

CITYarts’ Pieces for Peace exhibition in Athens continues through June 21, 2019

CITYarts is a New York based non-profit organization founded thirty years ago that engages youth with professional artists in the creation of public art including murals and mosaics. Through a guided creative process, CITYarts educates and connects youth and children locally and around the world, empowering them to become active participants in realizing heir personal potential and transforming their communities.

Following the devastating events of 9/11, 2001, CITYarts launched the Young Minds Build Bridges program in New York City with the goal of connecting the voices of youth all around the world in a united call for peace. Our response to the terror attack is an ongoing promotion of thinking globally and acting locally through youth-centered projects that build bridges of cultural understanding. Under the Young Minds Build Bridges program, CITYarts created the Pieces for Peace project that invites youth to imagine and create a personal image of peace. Since 2005, Pieces for Peace amassed a growing collection of over 9,000 artworks from more than 300 schools and community centers in 86 countries, on 6 continents.

From this vast collection, CITYarts’ Executive and Creative Director, Tsipi Ben-Haim, curated the Pieces for Peace Traveling Exhibition, which
so far has been displayed in over 20 sites. “I strongly believe that when kids create they do not destroy!”- stated Tsipi Ben-Haim.
