The PR Training Academy was created in response to global research which identified the need for a specific, bespoke, training platform for PR practitioners.

The new e-Learning resource provides bite-sized online courses, 24/7/365, by a combination of video, audio, and text. The European launch of the PR Training Academy was held on Thursday 12 September at the Irish Embassy in the Old Town in Tallinn. Hosted by Irish Ambassador, Her Excellency Frances Kiernan, the launch was attended by PR consultants, in-house practitioners, departmental communications operatives, industry representative bodies, and university lecturers.

The Academy is offering an initial 14 courses on prtrainingonline.com with a guaranteed 6 new courses each quarter. Access is by annual membership. Speaking at the launch Ambassador Kiernan said “I am delighted to host this event for the PR Training Academy. Estonia is the “e” capital of Europe. This is undoubtedly the most appropriate location to launch this new platform”.

The Academy began commissioning independent research into the PR industry, through Opinions.ie, in 2017. The research highlighted a global problem which PR practitioners were facing – 60% struggle to keep abreast of changes in communications and social media. “The industry is fast-paced, pressurised, and time poor. The investment of time and money, and the loss of earnings involved in attending training courses to upskill can no longer be justified, so PR people feel that they are really struggling to keep up to date with changes” said Gunning. They created a video to explain how pressure has increased on PR consultants over the years.

The trend nowadays is for training, which is Just in Time, Just Enough and Just for Me. The PR Training Academy was created in response to a very real industry need for bite-sized courses, available 24/7/365, worldwide.

Ellen’s background is in public relations, having handled some of the largest PR campaigns in the country, before moving into PR education in 1992 when she formed the Irish Academy of Public Relations. Now the largest private provider of online PR education in Ireland, the Academy also licences the National and Kapodistrian University in Athens, Greece and Dorben Polytechnic in Abuja, Nigeria. It has a joint venture with Orient Planet, one of the largest PR consultancies in the Middle East, which created OP Academy with offices in Dubai.
