Partnerships in the Public Interest: Best Practices for Building Successful Corporate-Nonprofit Relationships

The process of building relationships between corporations and nonprofit organizations is not often discussed – and these partnerships are often at the heart of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. This research focuses on such partnerships, drawing upon in-depth interviews with senior leaders of corporations top-ranked for CSR and, separately, the senior leaders of their primary nonprofit partner organizations. Corporate senior leaders for this study were chosen from the companies listed in the annual ranking of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens by Corporate Responsibility, and all of the senior corporate and nonprofit leaders interviewed (N=24) had held formal leadership positions for at least 10-15 years.
